Explore New Orleans:
New Orleans offers an incredible mix of history, food, music, and unforgettable experiences. Whether it is your first visit or a return trip, these highlights capture what makes the city so special.
Historical Cemetery Tour
One of the most unique features of New Orleans is its above-ground cemeteries. A guided cemetery tour shares fascinating stories about the city’s past, its traditions, and the people who helped shape it. It is a memorable way to experience New Orleans history and culture.
Garden District Walking Tour
This charming neighborhood is known for its grand mansions, oak-lined streets, and historic charm. A guided walking tour offers insight into the architecture, famous residents, and cultural roots of one of the city’s most beautiful districts.
Along the way, you will hear stories about notable figures who once lived here, as well as celebrities and public figures who still call the Garden District home today, making this tour both fascinating and star-studded.
Steamboat Natchez Jazz Cruise
Cruise the Mississippi River aboard an authentic steamboat while enjoying live jazz music and skyline views. This experience is especially popular as a Sunday Jazz Brunch Cruise, and in the evenings, a dinner cruise option is available for a magical night on the river.
French Quarter Food Tour
New Orleans is world-famous for its food, and a guided food tour through the French Quarter is the perfect way to sample classic dishes while learning the stories behind them.
New Orleans School of Cooking
This fun and interactive cooking demonstration teaches you not only how to prepare traditional Creole and Cajun dishes, but also shares the history and culture behind the food. As each course is prepared, you will taste the dishes one at a time throughout the presentation, making it a true sensory experience.
It is a wonderful way to begin your time in New Orleans, with great food, engaging stories, and a deeper understanding of the history of not only the city, but all of Louisiana.
Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tour
In all honesty, these types of bus tours can be hit or miss depending on the city. However, the Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus tour in New Orleans is a favorite of mine because it offers a live tour guide who shares the history of the city’s layout, explains the sometimes-tricky street pronunciations, and points out notable landmarks in a way that is both interesting and entertaining.
It is a great way to get your bearings early in the trip and helps you better understand the unique character of New Orleans as you explore.
National WWII Museum
It is nearly impossible to see everything in one visit, and that is part of what makes this museum so special. There is almost always a featured exhibit that captures your attention and adds a new layer to the experience each time you go. The National WWII Museum is also a wonderful activity for families. Kids especially love the immersive train ride at the beginning of the visit, which sets the tone for the journey through history. Ranked as one of National Geographic’s best museums in the world, this powerful and interactive museum creates a meaningful and memorable experience for visitors of all ages.
Mardi Gras Style Parades (Year Round)
You do not have to visit on Fat Tuesday to experience the magic of a New Orleans parade. The Mardi Gras parade season begins in January, and many of the parades are family friendly, making it a fun and festive time to visit with kids of all ages.
Beyond Carnival season, the city also hosts themed parades throughout the year, including St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, Christmas, and more. The music, costumes, throws, and energy are unforgettable.
If you ever visit New Orleans, I highly recommend attending a parade at least once. It is part of the soul of the city.
And if Mardi Gras is calling your name, we are happy to help you plan a family friendly Mardi Gras getaway.
Mardi Gras World Museum
If you are not visiting when a parade will roll, this is the perfect way to still experience the magic of Mardi Gras. Inside the museum, you can see the actual parade floats up close, and it is truly amazing to see just how large, detailed, and majestic they are when you are standing right next to them. You will also learn about other parades the designers have worked on and get a behind the scenes look at what goes into creating a Mardi Gras parade, from concept to completion. It is an unforgettable way to experience the artistry, creativity, and tradition that make Carnival so special. Entry to Mardi Gras world is part of the Go City All-Inclusive Pass which gives entry to 25+ attractions.
